Our Story

Dignifying Lives Well-Lived.

Our History

Simpson Funeral Home originated from the Webb City Undertaking Company, purchased by Jack C. Simpson in June of 1947. The Webb City Undertaking Company was in operation throughout the late 1800's, originally located at the former C.C. Harris home at 206 South Roane Street in Webb City, Missouri.

Post-War: Jack, Clayton, and Harvey

In June of 1947, Jack C. Simpson purchased the Webb City Undertaking Company along with Clayton Johnston and Harvey Arnce. They formed the Johnston-Arnce-Simpson Mortuary.

After serving his country in the military during W.W. II, and prior employement from the Webb City Undertaking Company, Jack C. Simpson pursued his education in the funeral industry from the St. Louis Mortuary School.

In 1949, they relocated their business to its present location at 400 W. Daugherty St. in Webb City, Missouri.

1960 - 1981

In 1960, Johnston-Arnce-Simpson Mortuary was changed to Johnston-Simpson Mortuary and in 1965, Jack became the sole owner.

In 1974, the business was renamed to Simpson Funeral Home after Jack's son, Hal graduated from Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science.

After serving his apprenticeship under his father, Hal obtained his funeral director/embalmer license in 1975. This began his long term involvement in the family business.

1982 - 2000

In 1982, Jack Simpson purchased the Roney Funeral Service in Carl Junction, Missouri. In its original downtown location, a new funeral home was built and renamed Simpson Funeral Home.

Jack was a funeral director and embalmer for over 50 years until his death on October 25, 2000.

2001 - 2020

In December 2001 Hal and his wife Stefanie purchased the Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City and Carl Junction from Hal's mother, Barbara Simpson.

2021

The third generation of the Simpson family continues as Austin Simpson, son of Hal and Stefanie, becomes a Missouri licensed Funeral Director. Austin and his wife, Amanda, begin working full time for the family business.

August, 2022

In August of 2022, Hal and Stefanie sold the funeral home to begin the formal transition to the third generation of leadership to their son, Austin.

January, 2023

2023 Began a new era for Simpson with the introduction of chaplain services for the families we serve. Under the leadership of Austin and Chaplain Kyle, the two led an intentional, Christ-centered approach to care for the families served by the organization. This started by meeting with families during a time of loss, grief support meetings, and maintaining regular followup and personalized care for the next year following the passing of a loved one.

August, 2025

We endeavored to create an outreach arm of our chaplaincy program, where we visit those who are homebound, in facilities, and the staff at the facilities to offer our care, ear and when a death occures, complimentary grief support services for the staff at those facilities. We have seen the immense power of Christ-ordained, Spirit-led intentionality with our partners in healthcare through this ministry.
